Buddy Matthews Shares Update on Ankle Recovery – Buddy Matthews has provided an encouraging update on his recovery following ankle surgery earlier this year. The AEW star has been sidelined since suffering the injury during February’s Grand Slam Australia event but took to Instagram on Wednesday to share progress from his rehabilitation.
“Today was the first time since surgery to hit a hack squat,” Matthews wrote alongside a video showing him training. “Still very restricted with ankle mobility but working on it daily!”
He continued, “Numbness is still a factor but hopefully subsides in the near future, but still unknown at this time. Swelling depends on the amount of rehab I’ve done that day but easily maintained with icing post. Take each day as it comes!”
Matthews sustained the injury while vaulting into the ring for his match against Kazuchika Okada in Brisbane. Despite damaging both ligaments and cartilage, he continued the match for more than 13 minutes before ultimately losing. In June, Matthews revealed that his ankle was not healing properly, and by August, he confirmed that surgery would be necessary to address the issue.
While Matthews didn’t provide a timeline for his in-ring return, his latest update shows clear signs of progress. The former House of Black member appears committed to a full recovery as he works to regain ankle strength and mobility.
