Earlier this week, rumors circulated claiming Russo had signed on as a writer for the NWA, marking what would have been his first major creative role in years. However, the controversial wrestling figure quickly shut down those reports through a post on X (formerly Twitter). Russo dismissed the story as another example of “Dirt Sheet Media” misinformation and directed his frustration toward wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer, who discussed the rumor on his show.
“I hope you can now believe me about the Dirt Sheet Media. Led by the infallible @davemeltzerWON I have no idea where @nwa even came from,” Russo wrote. “Not me. Of course, nobody even bothered to call me to ask. This is exactly what I’ve been saying about Wrestling Journalist for years Dave— I told you the hair dye was starting to seep into your brain. Meltzer had previously commented that Russo potentially joining the NWA “wouldn’t make much of a difference” given the company’s limited television exposure, though he acknowledged that Russo’s past success might help NWA owner Billy Corgan in pitching the brand to networks. Russo’s rebuttal made clear that not only was the rumor false, but his focus now lies entirely with JCW, which has a long cult following through its connection to the Insane Clown Posse and the Juggalo fan base.
Russo’s involvement as an investor signals renewed activity in the wrestling world for the first time in several years. His announcement also hints at creative plans for JCW’s future, promising a more aggressive and unconventional product as the promotion moves forward.
