WWE’s Plan Behind John Cena Vs AJ Styles Match at Crown Jewel – The much-anticipated final showdown between John Cena and AJ Styles at WWE Crown Jewel was reportedly part of a carefully crafted long-term plan. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the bout was “always scheduled for Australia,” despite WWE presenting it as an uncertain possibility to build fan excitement.
In recent weeks, Cena fueled speculation by posting on social media about a potential last match with Styles, even publicly urging Triple H to make the match official. Meltzer explained that this was a strategic move to generate buzz. “The idea was they’d tell people ‘you’re not going to get this match’ — so to create a demand for the match, they basically told the story that Cena is paying tribute to him because he’s only got limited dates, and AJ ain’t getting it,” he said. Meltzer also noted that Styles’ off-air promo on RAW, where he vented frustration about his booking, was another intentional element designed to build anticipation for the encounter.
Cena and Styles have a storied history, with their rivalry producing several classic matches between 2016 and 2018. Their 2017 Royal Rumble clash, where Cena defeated Styles to win his record-tying 16th world championship, is widely regarded as one of the best matches of the decade.
The hype campaign appears to have paid off, as fans eagerly await their next battle. WWE Crown Jewel will take place on October 11 at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. Following the event, Cena is set for two RAW appearances in November, the Survivor Series on November 29, and his final match at a special Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
