AEW Officially Announces Women’s World Tag Team Titles – After years of speculation, AEW is officially adding Women’s World Tag Team Championships to its lineup. During Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite, AEW President Tony Khan revealed that the long-awaited titles will be introduced “soon” in 2025. While Khan did not provide an exact date or tournament details, he expressed pride in the company’s women’s division and said this year has been one of AEW’s strongest.
Following Khan’s announcement, Renee Paquette unveiled the championship belt design to the live audience. The new titles share a similar aesthetic to AEW’s men’s tag team belts, reinforcing a cohesive look across the company’s championship lineup.
The reveal came just before AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander defended her title against Mina Shirakawa, who is a close friend of former champion Toni Storm. Khan has previously fielded questions about women’s tag team titles during media calls and hinted that injuries within the roster had delayed the project.
Once crowned, the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions will bring the total number of active titles in the promotion to eight. They join an already stacked championship scene that includes the AEW World Championship, AEW Women’s World Championship, AEW World Tag Team Championship, AEW Trios Championship, the Unified title (which merges the International and Continental belts), and the TBS and TNT Championships.
AEW now joins WWE and TNA as the only major promotions currently featuring dedicated women’s tag team championships, marking a significant step forward for the division and offering new opportunities for talent across the roster.
