WWE Planning Potential Premium Live Event in China – WWE is once again setting its sights on international growth, with a new report indicating that the company is actively exploring the possibility of bringing a premium live event to China in the near future. According to Fightful Select, the idea has been discussed internally for several months, with key figures in WWE pushing for the move. While no location has been finalized, Hong Kong has been floated as a strong candidate.
If finalized, the event would mark WWE’s first return to China since before the COVID-19 pandemic. Between 2016 and 2019, WWE held eight events across the country, with Shanghai serving as the primary host city. These shows, typically scheduled in September, had begun to establish themselves as an annual tradition before the pandemic forced WWE to halt international live events in 2020. A premium live event in China would not only signal WWE’s re-entry into the market but would also represent a major step forward compared to their pre-pandemic tours.
This push aligns with WWE’s broader international expansion strategy under TKO Group Holdings. In recent years, WWE has placed a strong emphasis on bringing major events to global markets. Countries such as Germany, France, Australia, and Puerto Rico have all hosted high-profile shows, with many of these events generating significant site fees for the company.
Looking ahead, WWE has already outlined a busy international schedule. Premium live events are planned for Saudi Arabia and Australia, along with a European “Road to Royal Rumble” tour in January 2026. Adding China to that calendar would further strengthen WWE’s presence in Asia, a market they have long sought to expand into.
Analysis: WWE’s continued push into international markets reflects the company’s strategy of making premium live events global tentpoles rather than U.S.-exclusive spectacles. A show in China, especially in a major hub like Hong Kong, would provide both symbolic and financial benefits. With AEW expanding its relationship with CMLL and strengthening ties in Mexico and Japan, WWE’s re-entry into China highlights the competitive race for international visibility in pro wrestling.
