John Cena Expected to Make His Final WWE SmackDown Appearance This Week – John Cena’s legendary WWE run is nearing its conclusion, and this week’s episode of SmackDown may mark his final appearance on the blue brand.
According to WrestleVotes, there is a belief within WWE that Friday’s show at Chicago’s Allstate Arena could be Cena’s last SmackDown. He currently has just seven dates left on his WWE schedule, two of which have yet to be announced. One of those remaining appearances includes his upcoming match at WWE WrestlePalooza, but it does not appear that another SmackDown date will be added.
“We’re told some within WWE are quietly expecting tomorrow night to be John Cena’s final SmackDown,” WrestleVotes reported. “According to a source, with only seven remaining dates left—and just two yet to be announced—it’s unlikely another will be a SmackDown event, meaning Cena will have debuted and ended his run on the blue brand in the very same building, Chicago’s Allstate Arena.”
Cena made his WWE debut in the same venue on June 27, 2002, answering Kurt Angle’s open challenge in what would become one of the most iconic debuts in company history. Despite losing, his performance left a lasting impression and launched a career that would see him become one of WWE’s biggest stars of all time. Closing his SmackDown chapter in the same arena over 20 years later would be a fitting full-circle moment.
For this week’s SmackDown, Cena’s advertised appearance is currently the only confirmed attraction. However, speculation is swirling after CM Punk teased Adam Pearce on RAW about showing up Friday. This has fueled rumors that Punk’s wife, former Divas Champion AJ Lee, could finally make her long-awaited WWE return. Reports have suggested that WWE has planned a tag team match at WrestlePalooza featuring Punk and AJ against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
If confirmed, this week’s SmackDown in Chicago could be historic on multiple fronts: John Cena’s farewell to the brand where his career began, CM Punk making another major hometown appearance, and the long-anticipated return of AJ Lee to WWE television.
