Matt Riddle No-Shows Charity Event – Matt Riddle has once again stirred controversy in the wrestling world after no-showing a high-profile charity event this past weekend, leaving fans, promoters, and even the event organizers scrambling.
According to Cultaholic, the current MLW World Champion was scheduled to face Simon Miller at the inaugural Global Wrestling Kingdom event, founded by Al Snow. The match had been advertised for months, but Riddle never arrived. Behind the scenes, Riddle reportedly voiced concerns about the quality of his travel and accommodations, complaining about a “cheap flight” and dissatisfaction with staying in a Barnsley hotel for two days.
Global Wrestling Kingdom attempted to ease tensions by offering Riddle the chance to run wrestling seminars for extra income. However, the late timing made it impossible to arrange. Despite his complaints, Riddle never officially canceled his booking. Instead, he told organizers he had accepted another booking but might still “potentially” make the show. In reality, Riddle never traveled to the United Kingdom at all.
Cagematch records confirm Riddle wrestled for Boca Raton Championship Wrestling on August 31 — the same day as the Barnsley charity event. PWInsider added that Riddle was also backstage the previous night, August 30, at Real American Freestyle’s debut show and even showed interest in competing for the promotion.
After informing GWK about his other booking, Riddle reportedly ignored any follow-up communication. The no-show hit especially hard given that the Barnsley event was organized by the town’s mayor to raise funds for survivors of domestic abuse and homeless veterans. Riddle’s absence forced GWK to issue refunds to disappointed fans, and reports indicate he has not returned his deposit.
This isn’t the first incident of this kind for Riddle in 2024. Earlier this year, he failed to appear at a Championship Wrestling from Memphis event, choosing instead to attend Nick Hogan’s wedding.
Riddle’s repeated no-shows raise serious questions about his professionalism and reliability outside of MLW. While he remains a major in-ring talent, incidents like these could severely damage his reputation with promoters who rely on advertised talent to draw crowds. For a charity-driven event with such an important cause, his absence appears particularly damaging, leaving many wondering if smaller promotions will continue to take the risk of booking him.
