WWE Hopes to Make Wrestlepalooza a Major Annual Event – TKO Chief Operating Officer Mark Shapiro has outlined big ambitions for WWE’s upcoming Wrestlepalooza premium live event, revealing that the company hopes the new show will develop into an annual franchise on the same level as WWE’s most prestigious events. Wrestlepalooza, which will debut on ESPN’s new streaming platform, is being positioned as a cornerstone addition to the company’s yearly lineup.
Speaking Wednesday at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia & Technology Conference, Shapiro emphasized the importance of the September 20 show in Indianapolis, Indiana. He described it as both a creative and business opportunity that could reshape WWE’s premium live event calendar.
“Hopefully, Wrestlepalooza is a winner and we can bring that back annually. That could be a marketing bonanza for us if we do that right,” Shapiro said. He added that WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque has been working tirelessly to ensure the show has the feel of a top-tier attraction. “He’s spending day and night creatively making what we think it can be: another WrestleMania or another SummerSlam.”
Shapiro explained that while the goal is to elevate Wrestlepalooza into the same conversation as WrestleMania and SummerSlam, he currently envisions it sitting alongside the Royal Rumble as one of WWE’s tentpole attractions just below the top two.
The debut event carries added significance as it will serve as WWE’s first premium live event to stream on ESPN’s direct-to-consumer service, a deal that was originally not set to begin until 2026. The timing also makes the show a direct piece of counter-programming, as it will partially overlap with AEW’s All Out pay-per-view.
The card reflects WWE’s intent to establish Wrestlepalooza as a marquee spectacle from the outset. Featured matches include John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar, CM Punk and AJ Lee vs. Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch, and other high-profile bouts still to be confirmed.
With Wrestlepalooza, WWE is not only looking to expand its calendar but also to create a new brand identity that could eventually rival the company’s most iconic events.
