Mark Nash Discusses His Approach to WWE Ring Announcing – WWE’s newest ring announcer Mark Nash, whose real name is Mark Shunock, recently appeared on Insight with Chris Van Vliet to share details about his philosophy and style behind the microphone. Nash, originally from Canada, joined WWE in March after a successful run as the ring announcer for Top Rank Boxing. In addition to his WWE duties on SmackDown, he also serves as the in-arena host for the NHL’s Las Vegas Golden Knights.

One of the first things fans notice about Nash is his choice of attire. He explained that his decision to always wear black is intentional, as he wants the spotlight to remain on the WWE Superstars rather than himself.

“Always wearing black, and it’s for a reason, because it’s not about me. It’s about the fighter or the superstar,” Nash said. “That’s their moment.”

Nash noted that while his WWE introductions differ from his boxing days—where ring intros were longer and more elaborate—the goal remains the same: to energize the athletes and the audience.

“In wrestling, you gotta come at it. You gotta come and bring the stank right away,” Nash said. “As much as I want to pump the crowd up — sometimes I think as fans, we forget that some of these moments, as much as they are for the audience and the fan, there’s somebody that’s getting ready to go to battle. And I want to make sure I’m doing that man or woman justice in my delivery and in my ring introduction.”

Calling himself “a fan with a microphone,” Nash expressed gratitude for his WWE opportunity, recalling how he grew up watching legends like Hulk Hogan, King Kong Bundy, and Jimmy Snuka, along with Canadian stars who inspired him. He also named John Cena, Chelsea Green, Michin, The Miz, and Carmelo Hayes as some of his favorite wrestlers to introduce.

When it comes to Chelsea Green, however, Nash made it clear he won’t attempt to replicate the playful ring introduction made famous by former announcer Samantha Irvin. “That is never coming out of my mouth,” Nash said. “Because also too, Chelsea is badass and she deserves to be introduced as a badass. So I think that fans will start to resonate with the badass announcement of Chelsea.”
