Jake Roberts Calls for WWE to Elevate Randy Orton – WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts has given his candid opinion on two of the biggest names in wrestling history, singling out John Cena for overstaying his run while urging WWE to give Randy Orton a greater spotlight.
In an exclusive interview with Games Hub, Roberts was asked to share his thoughts on the current WWE product and who he felt was either being overused or underutilized. When it came to overexposure, he didn’t hesitate to name the 17-time world champion Cena.
“Of course, I think John Cena’s playing them up. He’s been there a while, hasn’t he? Way too long,” Roberts said.
The conversation then shifted to stars Roberts feels are not getting the recognition they deserve. Without hesitation, he pointed to “The Viper” Randy Orton, a sentiment recently echoed by Ric Flair.
“There’s several, you know, I don’t stay on top of the product like I should or like I used to anyway. So it’s really unfair for me to even go there, but Randy Orton, he needs more, he could deal with more,” Roberts explained. He went on to draw a comparison between himself and Orton, saying, “Oh, Randy Orton is a lot like Jake the Snake. Without a doubt. Just the mannerisms and the way he carries himself.”
Roberts, known for his psychological approach to wrestling and character work, sees parallels between his own methodical style and Orton’s slow, deliberate in-ring persona. With Orton still an active competitor and Cena returning periodically for marquee matches, Roberts’ comments highlight the ongoing debate among fans and insiders about WWE’s reliance on longtime veterans versus maximizing the potential of active stars.
