Jake Roberts Believes John Cena Lacks the ‘It Factor’ – John Cena’s heel turn at WWE Elimination Chamber left fans stunned, particularly as he’s on his farewell tour leading up to his retirement from in-ring competition. On The Snake Pit podcast, wrestling legend Jake Roberts was asked for his thoughts on the timing of Cena’s turn.
“Yeah, absolutely. Sure, why not? It’s time for it for a couple of reasons. Number one, Cody’s your top babyface now. So you gotta get those other guys out of there, so he’s the only one. To turn him heel, he’s gonna wind up putting Cody over, which is what they want,” Roberts explained.
While Roberts supported the timing of the heel turn, he had less enthusiasm about Cena’s overall appeal. When asked whether Cena had the “it” factor, Roberts didn’t mince words.
“I don’t think he did. I don’t feel it. Nothing personal. But I just always struggle with him. He just doesn’t have that magic in him, man. His interviews are okay, and his work was good, very good. But he didn’t have that oomph. He had to work really hard,” Roberts admitted.
Despite this, Roberts acknowledged Cena’s hard work and dedication to getting to where he is today, underscoring that Cena’s success is due to his relentless effort, not an innate magnetic quality.
