Carmelo Hayes Reunites with Trick Williams on NXT – The September 9 episode of WWE NXT was packed with big returns, as both Carmelo Hayes and Tyler Breeze made surprise appearances that shook up the night.
#DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) opened the show, reflecting on their storied history in NXT. Ciampa noted it had been 10 years since his first tag match with Gargano in the brand, while Gargano declared he is “NXT for life.” Ciampa added that although he once thought his final NXT match was behind him, he was glad to be standing in the ring again.
Their reunion was quickly interrupted by Trick Williams, who reminded the duo that their recent victory over him came in a two-on-one fight. Trick accused #DIY of being jealous because their version of NXT couldn’t measure up to his. Gargano welcomed the confrontation, daring Trick to fight, but Williams revealed he had backup.
That’s when Carmelo Hayes made his return, reuniting with Trick in the ring. Hayes acknowledged the tension between them, even admitting Trick had been talking trash, but made it clear they were still a force. He told Trick that while Williams might call NXT his house, it was #DIY who built it, and Hayes who renovated it. Ciampa then stirred the pot, questioning who the “big brother” really was in their partnership. Hayes shot back, reminding everyone that Ciampa once betrayed Gargano — one of NXT’s most infamous moments. The heated exchange ended with Gargano issuing a challenge for a tag team showdown: #DIY vs. Trick & Melo.
Later in the night, NXT saw another surprise when Tyler Breeze returned. After Tavion Heights defeated Ethan Page in a flag match, Breeze appeared with his iconic selfie stick. With the Canadian flag draped over Page’s body, Breeze struck a trademark pose for the crowd, adding insult to injury.
Breeze, a staple of the black-and-gold era from 2012–2015 and again in 2019 before his 2021 release, has remained involved with WWE behind the scenes. His return to NXT signals another nostalgic connection to the brand’s past while reintroducing him to the in-ring spotlight.
