LA Knight Earns WWE United States Title Shot – LA Knight secured a future WWE United States Championship match after emerging victorious in a high-stakes mini-tournament on the February 28th episode of WWE SmackDown.
The tournament featured three qualifying matches, with the winners advancing to a final triple-threat bout later in the night. Knight defeated Jacob Fatu and Carmelo Hayes in the main event to earn his shot at Shinsuke Nakamura’s U.S. Title.
Fatu appeared to have the match won after hitting an impaler DDT on Hayes, followed by a top-rope moonsault. However, before he could capitalize, Knight pulled Fatu out of the ring and seized the moment, pinning Hayes to clinch the victory.
Earlier in the night, the three competitors secured their spots in the final by winning their respective semifinal matches. Fatu overcame Andrade with a top-rope moonsault, while Knight put away Santos Escobar with his signature BFT. Meanwhile, Hayes advanced in controversial fashion, pulling off an Eddie Guerrero-inspired trick by tossing a chair to Braun Strowman and feigning injury, leading to a disqualification.
Originally, Solo Sikoa was slated to participate in the tournament, but he opted to give his spot to Fatu, further cementing the latter’s growing role in The Bloodline.
With this win, LA Knight now has a clear path to a future showdown with Nakamura, continuing his pursuit of championship gold. WWE has yet to confirm when the title match will take place.
