WWE-TNA Deal Includes Purchase Option and Right of First Refusal – WWE’s partnership with TNA Wrestling reportedly includes significant business clauses that could give the company control of TNA’s future ownership. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the agreement contains a provision granting WWE the option to purchase TNA within a set time frame. In addition, WWE holds the right of first refusal on any competing offers for the promotion.
This arrangement is said to be similar to deals WWE previously made with independent promotions in Europe. Under such agreements, WWE could step in and match any outside offer, effectively blocking a sale to parties they might not wish to work with.
A WWE source told the Observer that the purpose of this structure is to maintain a strong, cooperative company in the No. 2 position within the United States wrestling market. This, in turn, could benefit WWE when negotiating television rights by boosting the overall value of professional wrestling as a genre.
These details follow speculation about interest from former UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta in acquiring TNA. While no deal has been finalized, the clauses in WWE’s current agreement ensure that they have priority in any sale discussions.
The partnership between WWE and TNA has already led to cross-promotional appearances and collaborative events, with WWE talent appearing on TNA programming and vice versa. If WWE were to exercise its purchase option, it would mark a significant shift in the wrestling landscape and potentially give WWE direct control over the second-largest wrestling brand in the country.
