Josh Mathews Makes On-Air AEW Debut at All In – Longtime wrestling personality Josh Mathews officially made his AEW debut at the All In: Texas pay-per-view, appearing on screen for the first time since joining the company. Mathews was featured on the Zero Hour pre-show panel and conducted a backstage interview with Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay, marking his first on-air segment in AEW.
As noted earlier, Mathews has been working behind the scenes with AEW since May, quietly joining the company in a production capacity. He was previously spotted backstage at an AEW event in a video posted by Maven—his former Tough Enough castmate. In that video, Mathews spoke briefly about his new role and revealed he was working closely with AEW’s EVP of Global Production, Mike Mansury.
“Right now, shadowing Mike Mansury,” Mathews told Maven in the video. “I’ll do the Ring of Honor matches before, then I’ll sit, watch AEW Collision, then do the Ring of Honor matches after. So, it’s a busy night.”
Mathews’ quiet addition to the AEW production team follows his departure from TNA Wrestling earlier this year. He had spent over a decade with the company in several roles, including as the lead play-by-play announcer from 2014 to 2021. His most recent title before exiting in February 2025 was Senior Producer and Senior Director of Digital Media.
Prior to his TNA tenure, Mathews was with WWE for over a decade, starting in 2001 after finishing as the runner-up to Maven on the inaugural season of Tough Enough. He served as a backstage interviewer, commentator, and occasional host during his WWE run, often contributing across multiple brands and platforms.
Now in AEW, Mathews appears poised to contribute both on-air and behind the scenes. While it’s unclear whether he’ll have a permanent on-screen role moving forward, his surprise debut at All In suggests AEW sees value in leveraging his experience on multiple fronts.
