Colten Gunn Sidelined with Knee Injury, The Gunns Pulled from AEW Tag Team Tournament – AEW has officially announced that Colten Gunn, one-half of The Gunns tag team, is dealing with a legitimate knee injury sustained during last weekend’s AEW Collision taping. As a result of the injury, The Gunns have been removed from the upcoming eight-team eliminator tournament that was recently introduced to determine the next contenders for the AEW World Tag Team Championship.

The injury was confirmed during commentary on this week’s AEW Dynamite, where it was noted that Colten, 34, will be unable to compete, forcing his brother Austin Gunn to also miss the tournament. According to reports, the injury occurred during a four-way tag match on Collision when Colten landed awkwardly after delivering a jumping punch to Big Bill. The match was notable as it marked The Gunns’ first in-ring appearance since February, making the injury all the more disappointing for the team and their fans.

A follow-up from Fightful Select revealed that The Gunns were originally scheduled to participate in the eliminator tournament, but AEW was forced to change plans and reconfigure the brackets. The report also indicated that there was initial hope that Colten might recover in time, but those chances are now slim.

The timing of the injury is especially unfortunate given that The Gunns are former AEW World Tag Team Champions and were poised to reestablish themselves in the tag division. The new tournament will move forward without them, with the brackets set to be revealed on this Saturday’s AEW Collision. The winners will eventually challenge the current champions, The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin), for the gold.
