CM Punk and Triple H Reflect on Past Animosity – Netflix’s new WWE: Unreal docuseries is pulling back the curtain on one of the most talked-about relationships in wrestling history—CM Punk and Paul “Triple H” Levesque. The series offers rare insight into the rocky history between the two and how time, perspective, and mutual growth have allowed them to mend fences.
In the docuseries, Punk candidly admits that their tension began during their time together on the main roster, when both were still active performers. “Initially, Hunter and I clashed because I was a main talent roster full-time the same time he was… so there’s that competition,” Punk explained. “Halfway through my career here, he becomes office and now I’m like ‘f*** you. You can’t tell me anything.’”
Triple H, now WWE’s Chief Content Officer, gave his own perspective. “Punk would never let me assist, and he would then sometimes attack me,” he said. “There would be moments where we’d have a meeting, and he’d come at me and I’d leave there thinking, like, ‘this little motherf***er…’ Punk didn’t trust me, and I didn’t trust Punk.”
Despite the rocky past, both men have moved on from the animosity. Since Punk’s return to WWE in late 2023, the two have developed what both describe as a solid working relationship. That renewed partnership played a key role in facilitating Punk’s high-profile comeback, which has already included a main event match at WrestleMania 41.
Punk now looks to take the next step in his redemption arc as he prepares to challenge GUNTHER for the World Heavyweight Championship. Their clash is expected to headline Night 1 of this weekend’s premium live event, potentially marking Punk’s first world title win since returning to WWE.
