The Rock Unrecognizable As “The Chicken Man” In First Set Photos For Benny Safdie’s ‘Lizard Music’

First-look photos have surfaced from the New York City set of Lizard Music, giving fans a startling look at Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s dramatic transformation for the upcoming Benny Safdie-directed film.

Spotted on set on Tuesday, October 20, Johnson was practically unrecognizable. Swapping out his usual blockbuster physique, the actor stars as the eccentric 70-year-old “Chicken Man” in the live-action/CGI hybrid feature.

A Massive Physical And Prosthetic Transformation

Bringing the character from Daniel Pinkwater’s 1976 classic novel to life has required intense preparation. Back in September, Johnson revealed that he shed roughly 50 pounds for the role, aiming for an appearance inspired by a weathered, older aesthetic akin to “Clint Eastwood at 75”.

To complete the transformation on set, Johnson has reportedly sat through grueling five-hour daily sessions in the makeup chair. The film’s legendary design and makeup department features industry heavyweights including Glen P. Griffin (Oppenheimer), Kazu Hiro (Darkest Hour), and Robin Pritchard (Chernobyl).

Production And Release Details

Following weeks of principal photography at Trilith Studios outside Atlanta, production shifted to the streets of New York City.

Amazon MGM Studios has officially slated Lizard Music for a theatrical release on December 25, 2027. The fantasy-adventure film follows a young boy (played by newcomer Theo Clark Leber) who stumbles upon a secret late-night broadcast of lizards playing otherworldly music, ultimately leading him to the Chicken Man and his long-lived animal companion.

The star-studded cast also features Alicia Silverstone, Tim Heidecker, Regina Hall, and Andrew Dice Clay, alongside voice work from Colman Domingo, Jeff Goldblum, and Rachel McAdams.
