Ryback is setting the record straight after a viral rumor claiming he was ready to step back inside the squared circle began circulating across social media platforms. The former WWE Superstar forcefully denied the fake reports, using the situation to criticize how quickly unverified stories spread within the professional wrestling community.
The controversy stemmed from a report alleging Ryback had publicly announced his readiness to return to wrestling, claiming he was open to negotiating contract terms with either Tony Khan’s AEW or Triple H’s WWE based on whoever reached out first.
Taking to Twitter/X, Ryback revealed that he directly contacted the outlet responsible for originating the post, leading to its immediate removal and a public apology.
“Misinformation Has Real Consequences”
Addressing the issue on social media, Ryback outlined how quickly fabricated news impacts an individual’s reputation before corrections can be issued:
- “This is exactly how misinformation spreads. Wrestling Corner published a completely fabricated story about me today, attributing statements to me that I NEVER made. After I contacted them directly, they immediately removed the post and apologized, admitting the information came from an ‘unverified Twitter/X account’ and that they published it without properly verifying its accuracy.”
- “People saw the original post, believed it was real, and immediately started forming opinions and attacking me in the comments over something I never said. I’ve watched this happen repeatedly for years.”
- “One page publishes something false. Other pages repeat it. Fans see it enough times that eventually they believe it must be true. Meanwhile, the person being written about is left dealing with the damage to their reputation, business, relationships and career.”
Ryback concluded his statement by calling on digital outlets to uphold basic editorial standards while advising wrestling fans to scrutinize unverified graphics and social media headlines before accepting them as factual news:
- “If you operate a news or media page, you have a responsibility to verify information before publishing factual claims about another human being. And if you consume this content, stop automatically believing everything you see just because a page puts it in a graphic or calls it ‘news.’ Verify before you attack. Misinformation has real consequences for real people.”
