All Elite Wrestling has officially unveiled a brand-new, high-stakes match concept ahead of its next major pay-per-view. During the October 3 episode of AEW Collision, the promotion announced that the inaugural Clockwork Carnage match will take place at WrestleDream, with the AEW World Championship on the line.
The ambitious match format brings together eight competitors in a unique multi-stage environment designed to test endurance, strategy, and rapid-fire scoring.
Clockwork Carnage Match Rules & Structure
The Clockwork Carnage concept combines elements of timed entrance gauntlets, elimination matches, and traditional Iron Man scoring across two distinct phases:
- Phase 1 (The Entrance & Elimination Stage): Two wrestlers begin the match chosen at random. Every three minutes, another randomly selected entrant enters the ring until all eight competitors have entered. During this initial stage, any wrestler who is pinned or forced to submit is immediately eliminated from the match.
- Phase 2 (The 15-Minute Scoring Period): Once the eighth and final participant enters the ring, the remaining non-eliminated competitors enter a strict 15-minute scoring period.
- Winning Condition: During the final 15 minutes, every pinfall or submission counts as one fall. When the 15-minute timer expires, the competitor with the highest total fall count is declared the winner and the AEW World Champion.
Unanswered Questions Heading Into WrestleDream
While AEW revealed the intricate rule set during Collision, the company kept the identities of the eight participants undisclosed. With the pay-per-view scheduled to air live in two weeks at 8:00 PM ET on HBO Max, qualification matches or marquee roster announcements are expected in the coming days.
By blending timed entries with an end-stage Iron Man scoring period, AEW is betting on an innovative gimmick match to headline one of its biggest autumn broadcasts.
