Jeff Jarrett Defends AEW WrestleDream Comedy Spot Between Andrade El Idolo And Tommaso Ciampa

Jeff Jarrett has weighed in on the comedy sequence between Andrade El Idolo and Tommaso Ciampa during their match at AEW WrestleDream 2026, pushing back against traditional criticism that lighthearted humor has no place on major professional wrestling broadcasts.

While speaking with My World podcast, Jarrett addressed the longstanding industry belief that comedy fails to generate business, arguing that effectiveness comes down to context and live audience engagement:

I mean, funny, don’t draw money is such a situational [concept]. I just don’t think you can paint it as…look, creative is subjective. Did you hear the reaction? They [the crowd] loved it.

Jarrett acknowledged that the spot—which featured a comedic moment involving Andrade’s pants—might not suit every fan’s personal taste, but emphasized that the crowd’s positive reaction proved the segment achieved its goal:

So I just think—and I get it, to each his own. It’s [that sort of spot] not for everybody.

To illustrate how humor can seamlessly integrate into top-tier wrestling without damaging performer credibility, Jarrett cited the career of Mick Foley as a prime precedent:

Mick Foley is very, very good at that. Pull a freaking sock out, get the pop and the Mandible Claw, and they go crazy.

Jarrett added that Foley’s skill in balancing levity with intense, serious action made those spots work throughout his career:

But you watch his matches when he was in his prime and he’d do that, but boy, oh boy, just keep the ball rolling.

Andrade successfully defeated Ciampa at AEW WrestleDream on October 17 to retain the AEW National Championship.
