Positive Update on Steven Borden Following AEW All Out Injury

A positive health update has emerged regarding Steven Borden following a frightening head injury suffered during Saturday’s AEW All Out 2026 pay-per-view.

Schiavone Shares Encouraging Conversation With Borden

Borden was injured after hitting his head while executing a double coast-to-coast spot. The match was stopped by the referee, awarding the victory to Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher, who became the new number-one contenders for the AEW World Tag Team Championships. While initial reports confirmed he was conscious and taken to a local hospital, commentator Tony Schiavone shared encouraging news on What Happened When:

“I talked to Steven just yesterday on the phone, and he was fine. He had no headaches. He had no dizziness… As far as a diagnosis is concerned, that has to come from our doctor because I’m not — I can’t make that. But I can tell you by talking to him, he said, ‘I’m fine.’”

Schiavone added that Borden, a former tight end at the University of Kentucky, expressed frustration over the match stopping, though he was reassured that news of his safety relieved everyone backstage and in attendance:

“He did tell me, he said, ‘Of all the years that I played football for the University of Kentucky,’ he said, ‘I never had a concussion, I never experienced anything like that.’ And he was more upset that he thought that he ruined the pay-per-view by what happened… And I said, ‘No, you didn’t.’ I said, because we announced it and then we announced it again to the crowd. So everybody was very happy that you were okay, so that really lifted everybody’s spirits.”

In-Ring Future & Upcoming Appearance Impact

Despite feeling better, Borden faces mandatory medical evaluations before receiving clearance to return to the ring. Schiavone noted that no official timetable has been set:

“So how long he’s going to be out? I don’t know. I’m sure there have to be some, they have to check on him before he can get back in there. It was very scary… He’s going to be fine. And you’re right, it was really scary at first… But, there you go. He’s going to be fine. And he and his brother Garrett have a great career ahead of them. Guaranteed.”

As a direct result of the incident, Borden will miss his scheduled appearance for DEFY Wrestling in Detroit this Thursday. Both Steven and his brother Garrett entered professional wrestling following their father Sting’s retirement run, with Garrett recently competing in his first AEW dark match alongside independent bookings.
