CM Punk Breaks Silence Following WWE Title Loss To Sami Zayn On SmackDown

Former champion CM Punk broke his silence after losing the Undisputed WWE Title to Sami Zayn on the September 11 episode of SmackDown.

Addressing his loss on social media, the 47-year-old veteran reflected on the end of his 67-day title reign, confirming his commitment to the road and confirming he will appear at the upcoming broadcast taking place on September 18 in Corpus Christi, Texas, where the CM Punk Instagram story Sami Zayn title loss will continue to shape the championship picture.

Taking to his Instagram Story following the broadcast in Mexico City, Punk made it clear that while nobody wants to drop a world championship, he views the setback as an opportunity rather than a defeat.

Addressing his fans, Punk wrote:

“I lost. 67 day undisputed title run. At 47. I’d like to say I did it on purpose for my boy (Je’Von Evans) but nobody wants to lose. Here’s the thing: Winners lose way more than losers do. I don’t have to try again. I get to try again. I didn’t have to come to Mexico. I don’t HAVE to do house shows. I get to. I get to wrestle in front of the best fans in the world in Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City. I don’t have to get the title back. I get to try to get the title back. I don’t HAVE to come to work. I GET TO COME TO WORK. So I’ll see you all in Corpus Christi. I will get MY title back. You don’t have to watch. You get to.”

A Chaotic End To A 67-Day Title Reign

The match on SmackDown ended in total bedlam. Punk appeared to have the match won when he trapped Zayn in the Anaconda Vice, forcing a tap-out that went unseen by the referee due to a distraction from Candice LeRae.

Moments later, Johnny Gargano attempted to strike Punk with the championship belt, only to be laid out with a Go 2 Sleep.

The critical turn occurred when Kevin Owens rushed the ring to intercept Zayn. Owens swung the title belt at Zayn, missed, and accidentally struck Punk in the face. Zayn immediately capitalized with a low blow to Owens, discarded the belt, and delivered a devastating Helluva Kick to Punk to score the pinfall and capture his second Undisputed WWE Championship.
