MFTs became the new WWE Tag Team Champions on the August 14 episode of SmackDown after defeating R‑Truth and Damian Priest, along with the War Raiders, in a chaotic triple threat match. The win capped off weeks of rising tension between the teams and marked the biggest victory yet for Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga.
MFTs Win WWE Tag Team Title
The match opened with all six men brawling at once. Tama sent Erik out of the ring, and the fight quickly spilled to the floor as MFTs and the War Raiders traded shots. Inside the ring, Truth helped Priest launch off the top rope to wipe out the other teams, giving the champions early momentum.
During the break, Tama headbutted Ivar to knock him out of the ring and followed up by striking Truth. MFTs kept Truth isolated, cutting off his attempts to reach Priest. Truth eventually fought free and caught Tama with a shot that sent him to the floor. Priest tagged in and went after the War Raiders, planting Ivar and clearing space for the champions to regain control.
Truth returned and teamed with Priest to double‑team Ivar, but Talla dropped both champions moments later. Ivar answered with a cannonball in the corner. The War Raiders followed with a pop‑up powerslam on Tama, scoring a close call. Talla then wiped out the Raiders and Truth, only for Priest and Ivar to join forces briefly to take him down.
Truth locked in the STFU on Talla, but Erik broke it up and dropped both men. Priest blasted Erik with a big boot and charged at the Raiders on the outside, but they sent him crashing through the timekeeper’s area. Truth fired back inside the ring, hitting shoulder tackles on Tama and landing the Five Knuckle Shuffle. He set up for the Attitude Adjustment, but Tama slipped out.
That opening allowed MFTs to hit My Brother’s Keeper, their assisted powerbomb, to secure the pin and win the WWE Tag Team Championships.
After the match, Tama and Talla celebrated with their father, Haku. His arrival two weeks earlier set the tone for MFT’s rise, as the trio attacked R‑Truth, Priest, and the War Raiders after their title‑for‑title match ended in a no contest. Tonight’s win completed the shift in momentum and established MFTs as the new champions on SmackDown.
