Kevin Owens didn’t walk back into WWE with caution on his mind. After more than a year away and major neck surgery behind him, Owens made it clear on the SummerSlam Sunday post‑show that he has no plans to tone down his style. Doctors may want him to be careful, but Owens has already decided he’s going full speed every time he steps into the ring.
Owens’ return was one of the biggest surprises of SummerSlam. Nick Aldis first added GUNTHER to the No. 1 Contender’s Match with Sami Zayn and Finn Bálor, then announced one final entrant. When Owens’ music hit, the crowd inside U.S. Bank Stadium exploded. The moment was overwhelming enough that Owens said he couldn’t fully process the reaction at first.
Owens Says He’s Not Changing His Style
“It’s hard when you’re in that moment to even hear the reaction because the music’s playing, you’re emotional, and the way the sound travels in stadiums is different than arenas.”
“Once I got in the ring, that’s kind of where the noise hits you… it was incredible.”
The moment reminded Owens of something “Stone Cold” Steve Austin told him after their WrestleMania 38 match. Austin once said he couldn’t hear the crowd during their bout, and Owens admitted he finally understands what Austin meant. But the emotional return didn’t change Owens’ mindset. He made his intentions clear.
“I’m not back to half-ass this stuff.”
Owens revealed that his surgeon warned him to be cautious, but he has no interest in wrestling a safer style. He said he’s willing to accept whatever comes with that decision.
“I’ve been told by my surgeon to be careful. I’m not going to be careful. If it ends in two years, it ends in two years. You are never getting less than everything I have.”
Owens also praised the wrestlers he shared the ring with during his return. He called GUNTHER possibly the best wrestler in the world, described Finn Bálor as a brother outside the ring, and highlighted his decades‑long connection with Sami Zayn.
SummerSlam marked Owens’ first match since March 2025, and based on his comments, fans shouldn’t expect a cautious version of KO. Doctor’s orders won’t slow him down — he plans to wrestle exactly the way he always has.
