NXT Great American Bash Draws Very Low Ratings Against Strong Competition

The NXT Great American Bash broadcast on June 29 faced a difficult night in the ratings, drawing 394,000 viewers and a 0.07 rating in the 18-49 demographic, according to Programming Insider.

The three-hour special aired at 7 p.m. Eastern Time and went up against strong competition across multiple platforms. AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door created direct overlap, with its pre-show and first two hours running at the same time. TNA Slammiversary also took place earlier in the day, adding more wrestling content for viewers to choose from.

NXT Great American Bash Ratings and Viewership Analysis

In addition to wrestling competition, several major sports events were airing simultaneously. These included FIFA World Cup matches, a Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees game on NBC and Peacock, and the closing stages of a PGA Tour event that aired on NBC due to a rain delay. The crowded schedule made it a challenging environment for NXT to attract a larger audience.

When compared to recent Tuesday broadcasts, the numbers represent a decline. From April 14 through June 16, NXT averaged 563,000 viewers and a 0.08 rating in the key demographic over a ten-week period. The go-home episode for Great American Bash performed better than usual, bringing in 668,000 viewers and a 0.11 rating, which marked the show’s strongest performance since mid-February.

Online engagement also reflected the overall drop in interest. Several match clips posted to YouTube struggled to gain traction compared to typical NXT content. The main event clip featuring Kendal Grey winning the NXT Women’s Championship drew 61,000 views. Other matches posted similar numbers, including Tony D’Angelo vs. Naraku for the NXT Title with 83,000 views, Zaria vs. Tatum Paxley for the Women’s North American Title with 69,000 views, and Saquon Shugars vs. Dion Lennox with 44,000 views.

The combination of strong competition and a crowded viewing landscape appears to have impacted both television ratings and digital performance for the Great American Bash broadcast.
