Jim Ross Believes Jericho May Want to End His Wrestling Career in WWE – Jim Ross has acknowledged that his prediction about Chris Jericho appearing in the 2026 Royal Rumble did not come true, after the former AEW World Champion was absent from the event in Riyadh on January 31. The veteran announcer had publicly suggested Jericho could be part of the match but later clarified he was only speculating and had no insider knowledge.

Speaking on Grilling JR, Ross addressed the situation directly and admitted his call missed the mark.

“I guessed wrong,” Ross said. “I saw a clip on that online that you know, JR, what do you think? Well, I thought he was going to be there, and I didn’t. I said I didn’t have any inside information, and I wasn’t lying the truth. I don’t know. It just seemed like it made sense. I think there are so many alleged surprises that they may have thought that adding Jericho to that mix would be a little daunting.”

Ross also shared his belief that Jericho will eventually return to WWE at some point, pointing to the veteran’s legacy and long-term place in the business. He suggested the motivation would likely be tied more to legacy than finances.

“I’m assuming he’ll be in the lineup sooner than later, because at his age and at his experience level, he’s, what are his other options if he wants to stay on TV and in the business and make a good buck?” Ross pondered. “I don’t think him going to WWE is a matter over paychecks. I think he wants to end his career in wrestling in WWE that’s not where it started.”

Ross also noted the impact such a move could have on AEW, given Jericho’s role in helping establish the promotion from the beginning.

“That’s the big loss for AEW,” Ross stated. “Jericho was a major player that is part of the foundation, fabric of AEW. I personally, as a fan, hate to see him leave, but you know, we can check out the tube and watch him on television.”

Jericho has remained a key presence in AEW since its launch, and any future change would mark a major shift for both promotions.
