CM Punk Likely Defending World Title at Elimination Chamber

CM Punk Likely Defending World Title at Elimination Chamber – CM Punk could face a major hurdle on the road to WrestleMania 42, with a familiar rival potentially standing in his way before he reaches Las Vegas. Punk is currently scheduled to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, but another title defense may come first.

According to WrestleVotes Radio, as of February 2 there has been internal discussion about a possible World Heavyweight Championship match at Elimination Chamber featuring Punk defending against Finn Balor. The Premium Live Event is set for February 28 in Chicago, Punk’s hometown, making his involvement a priority for WWE.

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp also reported that plans have long called for Punk to appear on the show in some form due to its location. One creative direction that has been discussed would see Punk accept a rematch on “his turf” after previously competing in Europe, which was closer to Balor’s home base.

The two have been building tension for weeks. Balor last competed on January 19, when he fell short against Punk in a World Heavyweight Championship match. The rivalry intensified on RAW when Balor attacked Punk during his bout with AJ Styles. Balor was also absent from the Royal Rumble match, further fueling speculation about his next move.

If the match is finalized, it would add a major championship defense to the Elimination Chamber lineup just weeks before WrestleMania 42 on April 18 and 19 in Las Vegas, where Punk is slated to meet Roman Reigns in a marquee showdown.
