Cody Rhodes Predicts WrestleMania 42 Will Be A “Sleeper” Hit – WWE star Cody Rhodes has shared his thoughts on the growing anticipation for WrestleMania 42, stating that he believes the event will exceed expectations despite some fan frustration over the current card.
During an appearance on Mostly Sports, Rhodes discussed this year’s Road to WrestleMania and the creative direction led by Triple H. With several key matches still unannounced, some fans have questioned the pacing of the build. Rhodes, however, urged patience.
“Enjoy the season. It’s unpredictable this year,” Rhodes said. “I know there’s a little bit of impatience in general, what are the matches — it’s a Road To WrestleMania and I think what Triple H will….I think there’s a sleeper WrestleMania emerging if that makes any sense. Sometimes the tenures are very obvious, sometimes the big staple pieces like John Cena’s final [Mania match]. I think we’re sitting on a sleeper mania here.”
Rhodes suggested that not every WrestleMania needs an obvious headline attraction early in the process. In his view, unpredictability can create stronger momentum as the event approaches.
In the same interview, Rhodes also spoke highly of AJ Styles and the impact he has had on WWE. According to Rhodes, Styles had already built a Hall of Fame career before debuting in WWE at the 2016 Royal Rumble in Orlando. He believes Styles’ run in the company elevated both his legacy and the in-ring standard.
“He changed the way we do pro wrestling,” Rhodes said. “And he also showed people what you can do — I felt like when he came back in Orlando for the Royal Rumble [2016], he could have retired around that period of time, and he had an entire two or three runs. And pound-for-pound, if we’re talking about the measuring contest and these things like that, pound-for-pound, that guy might be the strongest guy in wrestling. I mean, genuinely a super athlete”.
As WrestleMania 42 draws closer, Rhodes’ comments reflect confidence in the direction of the show, even as details continue to unfold.
