Powerhouse Hobbs Reportedly Headed to WWE – Powerhouse Hobbs is expected to be WWE-bound following the expiration of his contract with All Elite Wrestling. A new report from Fightful Select states that sources within WWE believe Hobbs has already signed with the company, although there has been no official confirmation from either side.
Hobbs became a free agent on January 16 after his AEW deal officially expired. While he has not yet appeared backstage at any WWE events, the report notes that WWE interest in Hobbs is not recent. Fightful Select reported, “WWE was looking to [acquire his services] in recent months, but WWE has actually maintained interest for years in Hobbs.” That long-term interest appears to have played a role in the belief that his move to WWE is now complete.
Speculation surrounding Hobbs increased ahead of the recent SmackDown taping in London, with fans expecting a possible surprise appearance. However, Fightful Select confirmed that Hobbs was not scheduled for the show. According to the report, “Realistically, WWE could have flown him in… but that didn’t happen.” Despite this, sources indicated that the expectation remains that Hobbs will soon join the promotion.
The timing of Hobbs’ free agency lines up closely with the Royal Rumble. He is expected to be present during Royal Rumble weekend, though no specific creative plans have been confirmed. Royal Rumble 2026 is scheduled for Saturday, January 31, at the King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, leaving the door open for a debut around that timeframe.
Hobbs’ final AEW appearance aired on the January 17 episode of Collision, titled Maximum Carnage. In his last match, Hobbs teamed with Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata as The Opps, defending the AEW World Trios Championship against “Hangman” Adam Page and JetSpeed. Kevin Knight scored the pinfall on Hobbs to win the titles.
A former TNT Champion, Hobbs joined AEW in 2020 and became a consistent presence on television over the following years. As of now, Hobbs has not publicly commented on his departure from AEW or the reports regarding his WWE future.
