MJF Says AEW–WWE Locker Rooms Aren’t Caught Up in Fan Tribalism

MJF Says AEW–WWE Locker Rooms Aren’t Caught Up in Fan Tribalism – AEW World Champion MJF believes the heated rivalry often pushed by fans online doesn’t match the reality behind the scenes. Speaking with Rolling Stone Australia, he made it clear that the supposed hostility between AEW and WWE talent is largely a myth, stressing that wrestlers themselves aren’t caught up in the same tribal mindset seen on social media.

“As far as [wrestlers like] Adam Copeland, Jon Moxley, CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, these guys aren’t turning around and saying ‘F that other company.’ They’re not in real life. I’m sorry. They’re just looking for a place to hang their hat,” MJF said. “What I will say is there’s no bad blood between the boys in the companies. It just doesn’t exist.”

According to MJF, the motivations of performers vary—some chase creative freedom, others chase financial security—but the rise of multiple major promotions has created a far better environment for wrestlers overall. He emphasized that competition has pushed companies to treat talent better and offer stronger contracts.

“Forget the fans, I don’t care about the fans. But the fact that the wrestlers now have places to hang their hat more now than ever is really cool. And the fact that when we started that, we became that alternative, we forced WWE or TNA or MLW to go, ‘Oh man, we have to pay our talent more money because there’s a new show in town,’ I think that’s incredible.”

MJF’s comments highlight a growing sentiment among top stars: while fans may argue endlessly online, the wrestlers themselves often view the industry as a shared ecosystem rather than a battleground. For many, the increased opportunities across promotions have made the business healthier than it has been in years.
