AEW Dark Set For One-Night-Only Return – AEW Dark is officially making a surprise comeback, albeit for a single night. AEW President Tony Khan announced before this week’s AEW Collision taping in Cardiff, Wales, that the YouTube-based series will return for a one-off holiday edition later that evening.
Fan footage circulating on social media captured Khan addressing the live crowd and revealing that he personally pushed for the temporary revival of the show due to the strong AEW fan presence in Cardiff. According to Khan, he approached Warner Bros. Discovery with the idea of bringing back AEW Dark specifically as a special attraction for the holiday season.
“… And because I love Cardiff so much, I went to the great executives at Warner Bros. Discovery, the great company that powers the engine that makes AEW possible.
I said, ‘Please, it’s the holiday season. For one night only, because there are hardcore AEW fans in Cardiff this holiday season, I want to bring back AEW Dark for one night only.’
And you know what they said? They said yes. So yes, yes, yes, yes. We’ll finish the night with a one-night-only holiday episode of AEW Dark tonight in Cardiff.”
AEW Dark originally launched in 2019 and served as a platform for pre-taped matches that often featured unsigned talent, developmental prospects, and lower-card roster members. The show built a reputation for giving wrestlers additional ring time while allowing fans to see a wider range of AEW’s roster beyond televised programming. A companion series, Dark Elevation, later debuted with a similar concept.
Both Dark and Dark Elevation were discontinued in 2023 following the launch of AEW Collision, as the company shifted its focus toward expanding its televised offerings and restructuring its weekly content output. Since then, Dark has remained absent, making this Cardiff appearance its first return in over a year.
At this time, AEW has confirmed that the revival is strictly limited to this single episode, with no indication that Dark will resume regular production. Still, the announcement was met with a strong reaction from the live crowd, many of whom were longtime viewers of the original YouTube series.
WrestlingAttitude.Com will continue to provide updates if additional details emerge regarding the special episode, including match listings and how the one-night-only edition will be distributed.
