During the broadcast, Alvarez hinted that AEW might have a surprise comeback planned for the special 2.5-hour episode but made sure to rule out two of the most speculated names.
“I just wanna say something really quick. I don’t think it’s Chris Jericho, but there’s a chance we might see a surprise return on AEW Dynamite. I heard something over the weekend that it’s possible. So, we’ll see. And no — it’s not Britt Baker,” Alvarez said.
With Jericho absent from AEW programming since April and Britt Baker sidelined since November 2024, fans eager to see either star tonight will likely be disappointed. However, Alvarez’s comment has reignited speculation over who might make their way back to the company.
The unpredictability surrounding AEW’s booking—especially during events like Blood & Guts—makes the idea of a surprise return all the more plausible.
In addition to the potential shocker, the card for tonight’s show is loaded. The Men’s Blood & Guts Match features Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Daniel Garcia, Wheeler Yuta, and PAC facing Darby Allin, Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly, and Mark Briscoe.
The Women’s Blood & Guts bout will see Mercedes Moné, Thekla, Skye Blue, Julia Hart, Megan Bayne, and Marina Shafir battle Kris Statlander, Toni Storm, Willow Nightingale, Jamie Hayter, Mina Shirakawa, and Harley Cameron.
