Big Names in Town and More Notes for 9/19 WWE SmackDown * SPOILERS * – The September 19 episode of WWE SmackDown in Toledo, Ohio, is shaping up to be a pivotal night just 24 hours before WrestlePalooza. New reports confirm that the show will both open and close with major segments involving some of the biggest names in the company.
According to Cory Hayes, SmackDown will kick off with a live interview featuring Brock Lesnar. This comes one night before “The Beast Incarnate” battles John Cena in one of the most anticipated matches of the year. Lesnar’s appearance will be his last chance to address Cena and the WWE Universe before the high-profile showdown.
The main event segment of the evening will feature a contract signing between Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and challenger Drew McIntyre. The two are set to clash at WrestlePalooza, and their signing is expected to provide the final spark before their championship encounter.
PWInsider additionally reports that AJ Styles, Penta, Finn Bálor, and Ludwig Kaiser are all backstage in Toledo. While they are not advertised for the broadcast, they are expected to work dark matches before or after the live show.
Two championship matches are also scheduled. Sami Zayn will once again defend the WWE United States Championship in an open challenge. This week, Carmelo Hayes has stepped forward, looking to end Zayn’s reign. Meanwhile, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair will put the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships on the line against Chelsea Green and Alba Fyre. This comes after weeks of hostilities, including Green and Fyre’s attack that left Flair sidelined until recently.
