Likely Date for John Cena’s Retirement Match – The end of John Cena’s in-ring career appears to be just five months away, with recent changes to WWE’s pay-per-view schedule narrowing down the likely timing of his farewell bout.
On Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez noted that WWE’s 2025 calendar now includes the July Evolution 2 event and a two-night SummerSlam, fulfilling the company’s pay-per-view commitments to Peacock with Survivor Series in November. That leaves December open for the final Saturday Night’s Main Event of the year — a slot Alvarez believes will host Cena’s last match, airing live on NBC and Peacock.
Cena previously revealed in July that his retirement match is planned for mid-December, though the venue has yet to be finalized. His father told a local outlet in May that Boston’s TD Garden — just under an hour from Cena’s hometown of West Newbury, Massachusetts — is expected to host the event. WWE has not confirmed the location.
If the plan holds, Saturday, December 13 seems the most likely date, as the TD Garden currently lists no public events that evening.
Cena has 12 appearances scheduled between now and the end of 2025, with his final bow marking the end of a legendary WWE career spanning more than two decades.
