Plans for AEW World Tag Team Titles Moving Forward – AEW is reportedly planning for FTR to capture the AEW World Tag Team Championship from current titleholders The Hurt Syndicate in the future.
According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated, “Right now last we heard the belts may get to FTR and are supposed to,” indicating that the promotion’s creative direction points toward a title change involving the long-time rivals. However, Meltzer also noted that this may not take place in a straightforward fashion, hinting that AEW could opt for a more elaborate finish. “They may do some sort of a deal and not just have it done clean in a regular tag match with other ideas being talked about,” he added, suggesting a controversial or storyline-heavy outcome might be in play.
These developments come as AEW’s tag team title eliminator tournament approaches its conclusion. The finals are now set, with FTR scheduled to face the team of “Brodido” — Brody King and Bandido — on an upcoming episode of AEW Collision. The winning duo will earn the right to challenge The Hurt Syndicate for the AEW World Tag Team Championship at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view on August 24.
While no official confirmation has been made regarding the timing or method of a potential title change, the reported plans indicate that AEW is setting the stage for another chapter in the ongoing rivalry between The Hurt Syndicate and FTR.
