Florida Declares August 1st as ‘Hulk Hogan Day’ – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has officially declared Friday, August 1, 2025, as “Hulk Hogan Day” across the state in tribute to the late WWE legend, who passed away last Thursday at age 71. The cause of death was reported to be a heart attack.
DeSantis made the announcement via X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, noting both symbolic and ceremonial gestures to honor the wrestling icon, whose real name was Terry Bollea.
“In honor of a great Floridian, Hulk Hogan, we are lowering the flags at the capitol and in Pinellas County [today],” DeSantis wrote. “Additionally, I am officially declaring tomorrow, August 1st, 2025, as ‘Hulk Hogan Day’ in Florida.”
The Governor concluded his post with a nod to Hogan’s signature catchphrase, writing, “Rest in peace, brother.”
Tampa, Florida — Hogan’s longtime hometown — also joined in commemorating the day. Local outlet Tampa News Force published a segment honoring the man who put the city on the wrestling map for decades. Coverage from Action News Jax and News4Jax confirmed similar tributes in the Jacksonville area, with flags lowered and fans gathering to reflect on Hogan’s larger-than-life legacy.
Hulk Hogan, a two-time WWE Hall of Famer, was widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in professional wrestling history. From headlining the first several WrestleManias to becoming a pop culture phenomenon in the 1980s and ’90s, Hogan’s contributions to the industry earned him legendary status both inside and outside the ring.
Today, wrestling fans and Floridians alike are remembering the legacy of “The Immortal” one — not just as a sports entertainer, but as a cultural icon whose impact was felt far beyond the squared circle.
