WWE Keeping an Eye on CMLL’s Máscara Dorada – While WWE continues to focus on its newly solidified partnership with Lucha Libre AAA, the company hasn’t entirely turned its attention away from other top lucha promotions. According to sources, WWE is quietly keeping tabs on Máscara Dorada, the high-flying standout currently competing in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL).
Though WWE is not actively pursuing talent from CMLL at this time, Dorada’s name has surfaced in internal discussions, raising speculation about a potential future return. The interest is notable considering WWE’s ongoing efforts to reshape its North American lucha strategy, largely through its AAA acquisition and the upcoming talent integration plans tied to that deal.
Fans will remember Dorada for his earlier WWE run under the name Gran Metalik, where he earned international attention in the 2016 Cruiserweight Classic. He later formed part of the Lucha House Party alongside Kalisto and Lince Dorado, becoming a staple of WWE’s cruiserweight division before being released in 2021.
Dorada’s current work in CMLL has drawn strong praise, especially for his consistency and athleticism. His performances have made him one of the most recognizable luchadores outside the AAA system, which reportedly caught the attention of key WWE officials despite the company’s current focus on AAA talent.
Insiders emphasize that no formal negotiations are underway between Dorada and WWE. However, his international profile, previous WWE experience, and continued popularity in Mexico make him a valuable prospect should WWE decide to expand its reach beyond AAA in the near future.
The situation reflects WWE’s evolving approach to global scouting. While the AAA acquisition provides the company with a significant pipeline of established talent and fresh stars, WWE is clearly still interested in maintaining awareness of top-tier names in other promotions, particularly those with prior WWE exposure.
For now, Dorada remains under contract with CMLL, and there’s no indication of an imminent jump. However, his status is one to watch — especially if WWE’s expansion in Latin American markets continues to accelerate in 2025 and beyond.
