AJ Styles to Challenge Dominik Mysterio for Intercontinental Title at Night of Champions – WWE officially confirmed during the June 16 episode of RAW that AJ Styles will face Dominik Mysterio at Night of Champions on June 28, and now there’s even more at stake—this bout will be for the Intercontinental Championship, currently held by Dominik.
The announcement followed AJ Styles’ victory over JD McDonagh earlier in the night. After the match, Styles made it clear he had his eyes on Dominik. Backstage, tensions flared within The Judgment Day, and Dominik demanded to take care of Styles personally. That’s when SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis stepped in and sanctioned the match—now confirmed as a title defense for Dominik.
This addition strengthens an already loaded Night of Champions card, taking place at the Mohammed Abdu Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The event currently features:
- John Cena vs. CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship
- Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. AJ Styles for the Intercontinental Championship
- King of the Ring Tournament Final
- Queen of the Ring Tournament Final
CM Punk vs. John Cena is being promoted as their final-ever showdown, while the King and Queen of the Ring winners will earn SummerSlam title matches. With Dominik’s Intercontinental Title now on the line, the stakes just got higher.
Dominik Mysterio has held the title since WrestleMania 41 and has racked up successful defenses thanks to Judgment Day’s interference. AJ Styles, a veteran with multiple world title reigns, now has his eyes set on adding the prestigious Intercontinental Title to his résumé.
Styles vs. Dominik blends legacy with heat, and it brings another meaningful championship match to a Saudi show already being billed as one of WWE’s most stacked international events in recent memory.
