Alex Hammerstone Open to Match with Bobby Lashley, Possible Japan Return – Alex Hammerstone is currently enjoying a period of career flexibility as he explores new opportunities across multiple promotions. In a recent interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Hammerstone discussed his admiration for AEW’s Bobby Lashley, the prospect of reuniting with MJF and Richard Holliday in AEW, and his openness to returning to Japan — provided the situation is right.
When asked about the fan support behind the idea of Hammerstone potentially facing Lashley in AEW, particularly in a storyline where MJF re-forms The Dynasty, Hammerstone responded:
“I mean, it’s a huge honor. I don’t have much of a relationship with Bobby. I think I’ve only met him in passing, but he’s definitely someone I’d love to work with. Obviously, you talk about angles like that that just seem like tailor-made. It’s like the world is just coming together to be like, ‘Here’s this thing you could do.’ It’s kind of guaranteed to work to some extent.”
Hammerstone emphasized that while the idea is intriguing, he is currently in a position where many opportunities are on the table:
“That being said, who knows. I’m in a very exciting position where I’m, you know, branching out and working with a lot of companies. But even just the MLW stuff right now, there’s talks of me going down to CMLL. There’s talks of me going to New Japan with them. There’s so much stuff that’s open to me right now that I’m just trying to take it all in and take it one step at a time and see what happens. I’m open to a lot of things, but I’m just trying to make sure I keep myself in a position where I’m able to put my best foot forward. Because I know what it’s like to not enjoy it and not put my best foot forward.”
Hammerstone also reflected on his time wrestling in Japan, most notably participating in the 2019 N-1 Victory tournament for Pro Wrestling NOAH. When asked about the potential for a return, he said he’s open but cautious about time away from home.
“Yeah, 2019 was the last time I was there, and I’ve had opportunities. That being said, I have become increasingly a homebody over my years, which is something you wouldn’t expect of a pro wrestler. You think they’d get more used to being on the road, but I don’t want to be away from my girlfriend and dog for six weeks. I’m looking at like two weeks max, and you know, a lot of companies right now are in the position where they’re trying to bring guys out for longer-term deals, and even that two weeks is mentally like, ‘Ooh, that’s a long time.’ So we’ll see what happens. I’m open to it, like I said, it’s just gotta be the right situation.”
Hammerstone is scheduled to wrestle Japanese legend Satoshi Kojima this Saturday, May 10, at MLW Azteca Lucha. The match marks another high-profile test for the powerhouse as he continues to establish himself on the global stage.
