Sol Ruca Relinquishes Speed Championship – Sol Ruca’s recent string of bad luck continued on tonight’s episode of WWE NXT, as she made the emotional decision to relinquish her NXT Speed Championship due to injury.
Earlier this month on SmackDown, Ruca appeared to suffer a knee injury during a tag team match against the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair. The setback forced her out of in-ring competition, and last week on NXT, General Manager Ava allowed her tag team partner, Zaria, to defend the NXT Women’s North American Championship on her behalf at Halloween Havoc. Unfortunately, Zaria lost the match to Blake Monroe, costing Ruca the title.
On this week’s NXT, Ava once again gave Ruca the chance to have someone else step in to defend her Speed Championship. However, Ruca declined and chose to vacate the title instead, citing her ongoing injury. The decision visibly upset Zaria, who stormed off in frustration following Ruca’s announcement. Ava later confirmed that a tournament will soon be held to determine the new NXT Speed Champion.
Earlier today, Ruca addressed her status in an Instagram Story before the show aired. While praising the Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge match, she admitted that she is still not medically cleared to compete but expressed hope to make it back in time for NXT Deadline in December.
“Throwback to one of my fav matches… I may not be cleared just yet, but I’m doing everything in my power to be at NXT Deadline,” she wrote.
Despite her current setback, Ruca remains prominently featured on the official promotional poster for NXT Deadline, which takes place on December 6 from San Antonio’s Boeing Center. Her inclusion hints that WWE continues to see her as one of the brand’s top young stars, even as she recovers from injury.
