Tony Schiavone Defends Cope’s AEW Move Amid Jim Cornette’s Criticism – Jim Cornette recently stirred controversy in the wrestling world by claiming that Adam “Edge” Copeland is “tarnishing his legacy” by wrestling in AEW. The outspoken wrestling personality has never shied away from critiquing AEW, and his remarks about Copeland drew strong reactions from fans and industry figures alike.
During the latest episode of his What Happened When podcast, AEW commentator Tony Schiavone addressed Cornette’s comments and firmly disagreed with the notion that Copeland’s move to AEW negatively impacts his legacy.
“If you look at that about legacy, about what it is — his legacy in the WWE is never going to be destroyed,” Schiavone said. “Listen, Edge and Christian [are] one of the great tag teams of all time.”
Schiavone also pointed out that Copeland, now in his early 50s, is still competing at a high level while securing his financial future.
“And regardless of what he does here, you know? It’s going to be — and not only that, he’s making a great living at north of 50 years old.”
Copeland, now known as “Cope” in AEW, remains a central figure in the promotion’s programming. He is currently part of the Rated-FTR faction alongside Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler. The trio is set to challenge Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and PAC of The Death Riders for the AEW Trios Championship at AEW Dynasty 2025 on April 6 in Philadelphia, PA.
While opinions on Copeland’s AEW tenure may be divided, he continues to prove his value in the ring. His upcoming championship match will be another opportunity to showcase his skills and reinforce that his legacy extends beyond WWE.
