The Undertaker Reflects on Retirement and Finding Closure – The Undertaker officially retired after his Boneyard Match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36 in 2020.
Since then, he has made sporadic appearances for WWE, including a memorable moment at WrestleMania XL. During the main event of night two, he played a pivotal role in the chaotic clash between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Alongside John Cena, Seth Rollins, and The Bloodline, The Undertaker made his presence felt by delivering a devastating chokeslam to The Rock.
Despite stepping away from in-ring competition, The Undertaker has remained connected to the industry. However, he recently admitted that walking away from wrestling wasn’t an easy decision. On the latest episode of his Six Feet Under podcast, he opened up about the emotional and mental challenges of retirement.
“In my mind, I could still go, but in my heart, I wanted to,” The Undertaker said. “But I knew I was done, out of gas. It took me a while to come to grips with it, even though I knew it was the right thing. There was still that huge void. ‘What do I do now?’ I don’t know that I want to coach or do this. This is all I’ve known for the past 30-plus years.”
His cameo at WrestleMania XL helped him find a sense of closure, reaffirming that his time as an active competitor had truly ended. While The Undertaker continues to make appearances and share his insights through his podcast, his legendary in-ring career remains firmly in the past.
