Bryan Danielson Updates on Neck Injury, Clarifies His Retirement Status – Bryan Danielson recently gave fans an update on his health and future in wrestling during an appearance on the Nikki & Brie Show podcast, hosted by his wife Brie Garcia and her sister Nikki. Speaking candidly about his transition away from full-time competition, Danielson clarified that while his full-time career has ended, he hasn’t officially retired.
“I was very cautious to not say ‘retirement,’ except for the match where if I lost (against Swerve), I would retire,” Danielson said. “After that, it was all, ‘the end of my full-time wrestling career.’ We don’t know what’s going to happen with my neck, but it honestly feels like I have a bobblehead.”
Brie confirmed during the discussion that Danielson still requires neck surgery, a lingering issue stemming from his grueling career. She also mentioned wanting to celebrate his career’s transition with a major social media post after his WrestleDream match, but Danielson declined, emphasizing that wrestlers never truly retire.
Danielson reflected on his previous forced retirement due to injury, highlighting how fleeting the public’s attention can be. “To me, at the end of the day, I realized this with my last retirement, which was forced. I didn’t want to retire, but they wouldn’t let me wrestle again. What I found is people are sad for a bit. Then, everybody just moves on and it doesn’t matter. The hardest part for it is probably for the person who does it.”
While his in-ring future remains uncertain, Danielson’s passion for wrestling and thoughtful approach to his health show that “The American Dragon” is far from stepping out of the spotlight entirely. Fans will undoubtedly keep watching as his career evolves.
