Backstage News on Jon Moxley's New Gimmick

Backstage News on Jon Moxley’s New Gimmick – Jon Moxley’s return on the August 28 episode of AEW Dynamite has sparked significant discussion, particularly due to the cryptic promo he delivered alongside Tony Schiavone. Moxley, who had been away from AEW since the Forbidden Door pay-per-view, left fans and insiders speculating after he addressed Schiavone with an intriguing statement that seemed to be aimed at AEW President Tony Khan.

Moxley said, “I’m gonna tell you something. I want you to listen to me. It’s gonna take some time for everybody to wrap their brains around this, but we’re gonna start right now, okay? Listen to me. This is not your company anymore.” This statement has led to widespread speculation about its meaning, with some even theorizing a connection to Shane McMahon, who reportedly met with Tony Khan several weeks ago at an airport near Dallas.

Adding to the intrigue, Moxley was later seen in a segment with Marina Shafir, signaling a potential new direction for his character. According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live, Moxley’s current gimmick is inspired by the 1992 Australian cult classic film Romper Stomper. In the movie, Russell Crowe plays Hando, the leader of a neo-Nazi group, who delivers a line that closely mirrors Moxley’s recent promo: “I’m gonna tell you something. I want you to listen to me, okay? This is not your country.”

This reference to Romper Stomper suggests that Moxley is adopting a darker, more intense persona, potentially reflecting themes of rebellion and authority, as embodied by Crowe’s character in the film. This shift in Moxley’s character direction has fans eagerly anticipating how this new angle will play out in AEW.
