Nick Aldis Reveals Who Pitched Him as General Manager – During a recent appearance on WWE’s “After The Bell” podcast, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis shared insights into his journey from the NWA to WWE.
After his tenure in the NWA, Aldis reached out to Triple H. Initially, he was brought in as a producer, contributing to WWE behind the scenes. However, a few weeks into the job, the idea of becoming SmackDown’s General Manager was pitched to him by Bruce Prichard.
“Well, like a lot of people, I was knocking on the door at WWE for years. For whatever reason, the opportunity just wasn’t there and finally at the end of last year, I decided to give my notice to my previous place, the NWA, and say, ‘It’s now or never. I’m going to try and reach out to WWE.’ I reached out to Triple H, and between then and when I finally came in, I had some conversations with Bruce Pritchard and [he told me] to sit tight, maybe there’s something, we’ll think about it. I stayed busy, I had enough run in IMPACT that was really good and I thought was very productive and then the opportunity came in the form of being a producer, and I was very grateful for that opportunity because I’ve enjoyed working behind the scenes, especially at the NWA, I wore a lot of hats there for the last few years, so I really got into the process of producing and thinking about things on more than just a surface level. I was very open to that being the opportunity, but I was very very grateful when Bruce pulled me out of a meeting, and he said, ‘We’ve got this idea, we’ve got something in mind.’ A few weeks later, they called again and said ‘General Manager of SmackDown.’ I just went, ‘Great, love it.’ Opportunity comes in many shapes and sizes and you can’t spend time blowing on things that didn’t happen for you and what I will say is, you can’t control what opportunities come your way. But, you can only control what you do with those opportunities and here we are in the early days of this opportunity, but I attend to make the very most of it and be the best general manager I can be, and the best general manager that WWE has ever seen.”
