WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts clarifies WWE relationship details and opens up about his ongoing health journey following recent comments regarding his return to the company.
After stirring up speculation during an appearance on Nick Club Wrestling Happy Hour by stating he had re-signed with WWE, the 71-year-old wrestling legend released a video setting the record straight. Roberts confirmed he is not under a traditional full-time WWE contract, clarifying that his involvement remains limited to fan meet-and-greets, autograph sessions, and merchandise projects.
Contract Clarification And WWE Appearance Scope
Roberts detailed the exact extent of his ongoing work with the company, putting to rest rumors of an executive or full-time backstage role:
“I talked about going back to work for the WWE. Yeah, in some capacity, and that capacity is real simple — signing autographs,” Roberts explained. “I went to SummerSlam and signed some autographs, and I do some Topps cards here and there. And I enjoy doing it. Just like coming out and seeing you guys, signing autographs for you and taking pictures. I’m not under contract — by no way, no means.”
Respiratory Health Struggles And 50-Year Smoking Habit
Addressing fan concerns regarding his visible use of supplemental oxygen during recent media appearances, Roberts candidly spoke about his battles with COPD and emphysema, taking accountability for his past habits while announcing a major personal health milestone:
“The second thing I want to talk to you about is much more serious. It’s about me being on oxygen. Yes, I’m on oxygen. Why? Because I was a fool, and because of genetics. Genetically, I was given emphysema and COPD, and, like a fool, I picked up some bad habits along the way: smoking. Yeah, I smoked for 50 friggin’ years, man. But I quit. I quit five weeks ago, and I’m sticking with it.”
“No-brainer, right? Yeah, because there’s a procedure they can do, but you have to be clean for six months before they’ll do it. It will help me get off oxygen, so thumbs up. We’re all good here. I’m gonna be around for a long time, so get used to it.”
Following his departure from AEW earlier this year, the icon remains focused on maintaining his sobriety and achieving the six-month smoke-free benchmark required to undergo his medical procedure.
