Following a physical Last Man Standing victory at Crown Jewel, Cody Rhodes has expressed clear interest in leading Team USA for the upcoming Team USA vs. Team Mexico match at WWE Survivor Series.
The Team USA vs. Team Mexico concept first surfaced during an appearance by Rey Mysterio on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story? podcast, where Mysterio confirmed he would captain Team Mexico in a traditional five-on-five elimination bout.
Team USA vs. Team Mexico Match Details and Cody’s Response
During the Crown Jewel post-show, Rhodes addressed Mysterio’s podcast comments directly, offering a clear response to the Team Mexico captain while looking ahead to the November event:
- Addressing Mysterio: “Rey Mysterio is over there on Stephanie’s podcast talking about a Team Mexico vs. Team USA. Sounds great. He’s going to lead Team Mexico, I would love [to lead] Team USA, lead them along, find a team of my own, that sounds like something I’d like to do.”
- Official Callout: “Rey Mysterio, if you’re listening to me, let’s make that happen at Survivor Series. Let’s do that, you’re on.”
- Moving Past Orton: Rhodes noted that joining the traditional elimination match represents a welcome transition into “fun competition” following his multi-month feud with former mentor Randy Orton.
Event Schedule and Building the Roster
Rhodes opened Saturday’s premium live event by putting Orton away with a Punt Kick, clearing his slate for the fall season.
With Mysterio already anchored as the leader for Team Mexico, Rhodes will look to recruit four teammates to complete his lineup before WWE Survivor Series: WarGames takes place on Saturday, November 28, at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas.
