In one of the most unexpected roster developments of the year, veteran independent wrestler Dylan Summers, better known as Necro Butcher, has officially signed a WWE Nostalgia Agreement, commonly referred to as a Legends deal.
What makes the signing particularly historic is that the 53-year-old deathmatch icon has never competed for WWE in any capacity throughout his decades-long career.
Summers took to Facebook to break the news to fans, sharing an image confirming the contract along with details on how the agreement came together.
“I have signed a basic legends deal with the WWE. The offer actually came in the day after I walked out of my job. The timing was ridiculous,” Summers wrote. “Now, the door is open for various projects, which have already been discussed. But I’m taking things slow.”
Following the initial announcement, PWInsider confirmed with WWE sources that the agreement is authentic. According to reports, WWE President Nick Khan spear-headed the signing—a strategy similar to WWE securing a legacy deal with the estate of ECW legend New Jack.
Reflecting on what the contract means for his legacy as a self-made independent brawler, Summers highlighted his pride in reaching the milestone without ever compromising his in-ring identity.
“What does this say about my career? A man who never worked there. But he worked hard everywhere he went. And still will. I will NOT miss my scheduled shows and most definitely will NOT be making any apology videos or speeches,” he added. “I’ve worked hard, both for myself and for my fans. Nothing was more important to me than credibility and believability. I hope this leads to more opportunities for guys who never got that call to the big time. This is OUR reward. Let’s enjoy this together.”
Renowned for his uninhibited, bloody brawls across promotions like ROH, CZW, IWA Mid-South, and Big Japan Pro-Wrestling—as well as his featured role in the 2008 film The Wrestler—Necro Butcher remains one of independent wrestling’s most recognizable cult figures. A Nostalgia Agreement opens up potential avenues for WWE Mattel action figures, video game appearances, and video library licensing.
