Cody Rhodes has shared his perspective on wrestling legend Haku, praising his legendary reputation as one of the toughest performers in professional wrestling history while highlighting his warm personality outside the ring.
Haku, who returned to WWE television on SmackDown as the manager for The MFTs (Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga), has long been the subject of locker room folklore regarding his intimidating legitimate fighting ability.
Appearing on the Comedy Shorts podcast, Rhodes reflected on growing up around the business through his father, Dusty Rhodes. Rhodes admitted that as a child, he preferred watching the product as a fan rather than focusing on backstage operations:
I’ll tell you this crazy thing. I was such a slow learner in terms of… I didn’t want to know about… the secrets of it. I liked being out there. I didn’t want to be backstage, even though I was backstage with my dad all the time. I wanted to watch it.
Rhodes then recalled an early memory involving Haku in Macon, Georgia, before addressing the veteran’s status among fellow wrestlers:
But one time, I think it was in Macon, Georgia, Haku, who’s on WWE TV now. Haku is notoriously the toughest wrestler of all time. Gouged a cop’s eye out. Just this amazing… If you look up anything Haku, and any wrestler will tell you, Haku is the toughest. He’s also the sweetest human being you’ve ever met.
Despite the wild backstage stories and urban legends surrounding Haku’s toughness, Rhodes emphasized that the wrestling icon’s genuine kindness is just as prominent as his feared physical reputation.
